This Week’s Haul:
This week, I went a little nutso. I had $40 in my pocket and got some great recipe ideas on the fly! So, this inaugural post is truly a representation of a $33 market run. In fact, if I hadn’t had those sudden realizations, it would’ve been precisely $18.50!
The Numbers:
Bags of Squash, Bell Peppers, Anaheim Chilies and Eggplant, $1 each ($4 total)
1 Bunch Cilantro, $1
Bag of Salad Greens w/ Edible Flowers, $3
1pt. Black Mission Figs, $3
1 Dozen Eggs, $4
5 Pink Lady Apples (with one complimentary plum), $2
1 HUGE Bunch Swiss Chard, $1.50

The Extras:
Tempha (a.k.a. Tempeh), $5
Kim Chee, $7
Little Chocolate Cake (for my boyfriend), $3
Usually I come to the market with very few ideas. I like to see what’s fresh and in season, then base the rest of my grocery shopping on what I’ve found. By the end of the weekend, I usually have the whole week’s menus planned…after watching lots of PBS cooking shows! What will I come up with this week? Well, I’ll be snacking on the apples, peppers and figs. I’ll also be trying to avoid snacking on the Tenpha, it is SOOO addictive! That and the Kim Chee were meant for my Korean Tofu Tacos (based on a BOOLBBQ dish).
Stay tuned, the results will be as adventurous as they will be delicious!!
My husband, Aaron, swears by the PBS shows. Aaron is a fabulous cook and makes some awesome weekend meals thanks to Lidia, Jacques, Eric, and Steven. We make fun of Raichlen, though. He’s kind of a robot: “mmm! nailed it.”
Hey Fez!
Lucky girl, you’ve got a fella cookin’ for you! Mine does sometimes, and I always see some inkling of what we’ve seen Lidia, Jaques, Ming or the America’s Test Kitchen crew recently did. It warms my heart to know he’s using the information I’m kinda force-feeding him…and enjoying it! And yeah, Raichlen… he knows his stuff, but he IS a little mmm…interesting?
Thanx for watching 🙂
